What is Ortho Evra®?
Ortho Evra ® is a contraceptive launched in 2002 and it is used as a skin patch. That patch contains a combination of female hormones that are intended to prevent ovulation since fertility depends on the release or not of these hormones. It also causes changes in the cervical mucus and uterine lining.
Ortho Evra® side effects
Because it is applied as a patch, Ortho Evra® releases 60% more hormones than other oral contraceptive pills. The hormones are released directly in the blood while the hormones from the oral pills are partially diluted during the digestion. These high levels of hormones are believed to greatly improve the risks of blood clots, strokes, heart attack, circulation problems and other serious injuries. in 2006 the publication of a study confirmed these risks.
